Beginning Market Basket Weaving

Dates: Wednesday May 18 & Thursday May 19

Time: 10:00 – 1:00 p.m.

Description: You know you've always wanted to learn how to weave a basket - so jump right in! The finished market basket is approximately 6"W x 14" L and 5" D and features a wrapped wood handle. You will be weaving in natural reed and one color of your choice.

In this class you will learn 7 basic skills needed for most basket designs:

  • Wrapping a wood handle
  • Laying out the basket with staves
  • Incorporating a handle
  • Twinning the base for stability
  • "Upsetting" the basket
  • Weaving
  • Attaching and lashing a rim

Most other baskets weaving classes require this beginning class first.  All Material and tools are provided.

Location: Boarding House, Historic Johnson Farm on Haywood Road, Hendersonville, NC

Class Fee: Members: $65.00; Non-members: $90.00

Materials Fee:  $10.00, paid to Instructor on the first class day

Skill Level: Beginner

Maximum number of students: 4
